Cancerous and Noncancerous Eye Disease Treatments That Bring Results

Our physicians and researchers at USC Roski Eye Institute bring you years of expertise and leading-edge care in successfully diagnosing and treating malignant (cancerous) and benign (noncancerous) eye tumors. You’ll find complete care right here, with access to comprehensive eye exams, diagnostic imaging and treatments that can help restore your eye health and improve your vision.

We work in consultation with your referring primary care providers, and because eye cancer conditions often require a multidisciplinary approach, we work collaboratively with specialists across our entire health system.

What Is Eye Cancer?

Eye cancer starts in the eye and occurs when a cancerous tumor grows in the tissues. These tumors can develop in different parts of the eye, including the eyeball or the orbit (tissue surrounding the eyeball). The most common type of eye cancer is called uveal melanoma, which begins in the eye’s pigment-producing cells (melanocytes).

Eye Cancer Conditions We Treat

There are several types of eye cancer. They are categorized based on where it is located within the eye.

  • Anterior segment and iris tumors
  • Conjunctival tumors, such as ocular surface squamous neoplasia or melanoma
  • Eyelid tumors
  • Lymphoma of the eye and orbit
  • Orbital and optic nerve lesions
  • Retinoblastoma
  • Uveal lesions, including melanoma, metastatic lesions, vascular lesions
