About Alexander Chen, MD

Alexander Chen, MD is a board certified anesthesiologist and interventional pain medicine specialist. A native Southern Californian, after receiving his undergraduate degree in physiology and neuroscience from UC San Diego, he attended medical school at the Frank H Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University in North Haven, Connecticut. Dr. Chen then returned to Los Angeles, where he completed both his anesthesiology residency and interventional pain medicine fellowship at LA General Hospital and the Keck School of Medicine.

Dr. Chen’s clinical focus is on treating patients with chronic pain throughout the entire spine, as well as chronic extremity pain from various causes. His philosophy involves a highly multimodal treatment regimen involving various interventions, medications, and therapies.

In an academic capacity, Dr. Chen is an assistant professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at USC. His academic interests include studying the comparison of central versus peripheral nerve stimulation in chronic pain diseases. He also enjoys his teaching and training medical students, resident physicians, and fellow physicians. In his free time, Dr. Chen enjoys golf, basketball, and cooking.
