About Amir-Hossein Akbari, MD
Amir Akbari, MD, is a pathologist who specializes in caring for patients with gastrointestinal and genitourinary conditions. Whether diagnosing complex cancers or guiding treatment decisions, he aims to be a trusted partner in his patients’ care journey and strives to ensure they feel informed, supported and empowered. Dr. Akbari’s approach emphasizes collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, integrating the latest research with a human touch to deliver care that is both innovative and deeply empathetic.

In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Akbari is passionate about cancer research with an emphasis on malignancies impacting the urinary system, female reproductive organs and the digestive tract. His current research explores the molecular and genetic changes that drive prostate, bladder, kidney, gynecologic and gastrointestinal cancers. Dr. Akbari works on identifying biomarkers that help doctors more accurately diagnose these cancers. His goal is to connect the latest scientific discoveries to real-world clinical practice, improving outcomes for patients with these complex conditions. 

Dr. Akbari’s responsibilities also include helping to educate the next generation of physicians. He is an assistant professor of pathology at the Keck School of Medicine of USC.

When he’s not working, Dr. Akbari enjoys exploring the outdoors and volunteering. He grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia.
