Apurva Akkad, MD, is an infectious disease physician at Keck Medicine of USC, who specializes in providing whole-person care to transplant recipients or potential recipients. He prioritizes getting to know each patient and works directly with them to develop treatment plans that align with their goals and family lifestyles.
Dr. Akkad’s research is focused on solid organ transplantation, prophylactic medicine and pre-transplant vaccinations. His team recently analyzed how transplant recipients responded to the COVID-19 vaccine and how it impacted their post-transplant outcomes. Dr. Akkad’s research has been published in peer-reviewed journals and featured at medical conferences across Southern California.
Dr. Akkad is a member of several professional organizations, including the Infectious Diseases Society of America, the American Society of Transplantation and the HIV Medicine Association.
Outside of work, Dr. Akkad loves going hiking and spending days at the beach with his wife and son. He is an avid soccer and tennis player and enjoys cheering on his favorite Boston sports teams.
