About Zaw Win Myint, MD

Zaw Win Myint, MD, specializes in treatment of multiple myeloma, lymphoma and acute and chronic leukemia, along with autologous stem cell transplant. He calls on the considerable resources of USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center to offer patients cutting-edge therapies in clinical trial settings, as well as a wide range of standard therapies.

His research focuses on identifying biomarkers to aid in cancer diagnosis and in the prognosis of lymphoma, multiple myeloma and related disorders. He is on the search for more effective treatments for lymphoma and myeloma with fewer side effects for patients who are newly diagnosed or whose cancer has relapsed after initial treatment.

Dr. Myint was born and raised in a small town near Mandalay, Burma, now Myanmar. He grew up in a medical family (his father was an anesthesiologist and his mother was a general practitioner). He chose to specialize in hematology/oncology because it integrates clinical research into how patients are treated.

On weekends, he devotes Saturday to catching up on medical journals. On Sunday, he enjoys watching movies and exploring new places with his family.

I believe in communication, respect and professionalism. I want my patients and their families to feel informed, included and supported throughout their care. I strive to explain in clear terms what the diagnosis means and to identify the treatment that fits the disease and what to expect from the treatment.

Treatment encompasses the entire well-being of the patient. A multidisciplinary approach with evidence-based medicine and open communication are integral to ensure patients and their loved ones have the tools to make the best decisions on each step of their journey.
